Make sure to check out our most recent publication on the science of microneedling in aesthetic medicine. After many months of hard work constructing this paper with Dr. Tina Alster, it has finally been published in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery as of August 7th, 2017.
Microneedling: A Review and Practical Guide
Microneedling holds a special place in my heart for its highly effective results with minimal associated downtime. I have been studying this procedure extensively for over 1.5 years and have developed a thorough understanding of the mechanism by which it stimulates new collagen and elastin synthesis in photodamaged and scarred skin. Microneedling works by producing small micro-wounds that directly harness the bodies own stimulatory pathways through a controlled wound-healing process. It is this wound healing process that induces the release of various growth factors that work directly on collagen gene expression and synthesis.
